Street-by-street network builds
Fibre, cable and DSL networks are not built everywhere at once. A provider may have service on one block and not the next.
This page explains why neighbours, condo units, new subdivisions and rural roads can all show different internet choices even when they look close together on a map.
This page is general education. It does not confirm provider availability, pricing, or suitability at a specific address.
Fibre, cable and DSL networks are not built everywhere at once. A provider may have service on one block and not the next.
Two units in the same building can show different options if one side of the building, one riser or one suite stack has different wiring or upgrade status.
Some new subdivisions are built with newer fibre infrastructure while older streets may rely on cable, DSL or legacy infrastructure.
Outside core urban areas, wired coverage can taper off quickly and fixed wireless, LTE/5G or satellite may become more relevant.
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Does fibre reach the exact address? | Provider maps and ad copy can sound broad. Ask whether service reaches the exact house, unit or building. |
| What is the upload speed? | Upload speed can differ sharply between fibre and cable, and it affects video calls, cloud backups and serious work-from-home use. |
| What equipment is required? | Some services require provider-owned gateways, ONTs or technician installs. |
| Does the building need access approval? | Managed properties may require landlord, superintendent or condo-board access rules. |
| What is the regular price? | The headline price may hide a short promo period or equipment charges. |
Ask about building wiring, telecom-room access, self-install rules and whether service can be activated in your specific unit.
Ask whether the development is fully lit for fibre yet, or whether a limited set of service tiers is currently active.
Compare fixed wireless, LTE/5G and satellite alongside any wired option. Real-world performance can matter more than the headline speed.
If you are moving, do not assume the same provider or equipment will work at the new address. Re-check everything using the new address.
